現在に至るインターネットの発展の中できわめて重要でありながら認識が薄いことが いくつかある。たとえば、インターネット発展の本当の原動力がいろいろな意味で カリフォルニア大学バークレイ校CSRGのBSDの活動であったことは あまり語られることがない。また、IPｖ６の技術選定にかかわる議論の中で、 「より多くのプログラマがかかわれること」が決め手 になったこともあまり語られなくなってきた。 エンジニアの情熱と根性の結果が、21世紀の情報社会の基盤を形成する責任を担って いるという事実を正確に認識し、次の世代のデジタル環境を構築する必要がある。こ こでは、IPｖ６との導入をきっかけに新しく展開するインターネット環境とその技術 的な可能性について議論する。
